The educator toolkit is an introductory course to diversity, equity, inclusion, and decolonization in the classroom. This program offers big concepts in bite size chunks, while supporting the development of an educators knowledge and skills that can be used in the classroom setting. The four key modules of the program include: Content in the Classroom Language Use Voice Anti-Oppressive Practices As an educator, it is critical to better understand our perspective and what narrative we are portraying in our classroom. Throughout this program, you will be encouraged to reflect on your own practice and plan for a more equitable future.
Decolonizing Education: Unlearning Streaming
Decolonizing Education: Unlearning Streaming guides participants through five thought provoking modules that provide insight into the reasons why destreaming is an equitable practice. The modules offer research and perspectives that foster the unlearning of: · Disadvantageous, discriminatory and oppressive educational beliefs that sustained streaming. · Unconscious biases and assumptions embedded in planning for students' pathways and programming · Stereotypical language and labels we have traditionally used · How colonization has impacted education This course would benefit K-12 educators as well helping parents and caregivers navigate their children’s futures. Expanding the Truth Before Reconciliation
In this course, participants have the opportunity to engage in deepening their understanding of the historical and ongoing truths about settler colonialism, racism, and oppression in the country we now refer to as Canada. Through a truth telling timeline participants have the opportunity to reflect on unlearn designs as provocations that connect to current and historic realities of Indigenous People. This course is designed in a way that encourages the participant to seek out further information and truth with respect to the provocations shared.
